What is a Spit Snare ?

The Spit Snare is a sound made with the lips. You can hum while doing it.

It sounds like a clap and is genuinely a great choice for:

  • Cleanliness

  • Hum a melody while doing percussions

  • Technical patterns

Characteristics

  • Type: Percussion, snare

  • Phonatory section: Lips

  • Possible positions:

    • Kiss Position (the one that will be taught in this page)

    • Bottom lip over the top lip (like BMG, Napom)

    • Top lip over the bottom lip (like Alem)

  • Hummable: Yes

  • Declinations: Double Spit Snare, Triple Spit Snare

  • Other names: BMG Snare, Döme Snare

  • Common users: Döme, BMG, FootboxG, Colaps

How to do the Spit Snare?

Step 1: Inflate your cheeks and release them all at once with your fingers.

Step 2: Release your cheeks with the fingers

You should get this sound.

Steps 1 & 2

Step 3: Replicate the same action without your fingers, and then when you feel more comfortable with the sound, try to do it with inflating your cheeks.

Step 4: Perform the Spit Snare without the fingers and without inflating your cheeks.

After weeks and months of practice, you should get this sound. Don’t worry about the Spit Snare being too dirty, even for a few months.

How to do the Double Spit Snare?

You need to slide a hummable hi-hat (outward laryngeal movement). Perform a single Spit Snare as a first stroke, and then slide it to a hummable hi-hat by keeping the Spit Snare position.

How to do the Triple Spit Snare?

I know two ways for doing the Triple Spit Snare.

  • The Fake Triple Spit Snare (Double Spit Snare + Kiss hi-hat) - still hummable

  • The Triple Spit Snare using the lungs by performing P, T K (Basic Kick, Hi-hat and Snare) in the Spit Snare position - no more hummable

7 Spit Snare Patterns

  • P: Kick

  • -b: Kiss Hi-hat

  • S: Spit Snare

  • <K: Inward K Snare

  • S²: Double Spit Snare

  • 🗣: Throat Kick (just say hm)
